Into the Line
Into the Line covers the communal attraction climbers experience before and up to the climbing route. Inspired by the concept of the Sublime in the Romantic and modernist period, the photographs explore our connection to vast spaces both from afar and within them.
Scottish winter climbing is world-renowned for its unique mixed conditions, going from rock and rime to snow and ice gullies. The Scottish Highlands provide big mountain experiences on a smaller and more accessible scale, meaning one is not limited to the Himalayas or Alps. Inspired by the pioneers before us who were setting up new routes, we long to venture into the unknown.
The communion climbers' experience with the mountain scape goes beyond the summit; it is an eternal journey, calling us to return. For this reason, the project does not continue with photographs from the top; these trips intend to return with stories and inspiration to go again. The summit is only the halfway point.
